Taco Bell tennis tourney begins on Monday

Entries are in and the brackets are complete for the Taco Bell Western Slope Open.

The annual tennis tournament begins at 9 a.m. Monday with boys and girls singles. Family events begin Wednesday and adults begin play in the tournament Thursday.

More than 300 people are registered to participate in the annual Taco Bell Western Slope Open. There are more than 500 entries this year.

“I’m excited about the number of players in our age 10 and 12 draws,” Tournament Director Lena Elliott said. “That’s good for the future of tennis.”

Matches take place at the Elliott Tennis Center at Colorado Mesa University and Canyon View Park.

Players are expected to report to the Elliott Tennis Center at Colorado Mesa University at least 15 minutes before their scheduled match for court assignments.

Players can check their draws and match times between 1 and 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in the wrestling room in the Maverick Center. The wrestling room is on the west side of Brownson Arena.

A barbecue for the players and their families is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, July 26 in the Maverick Center. It is hosted by Taco Bell.
