Taco Bell Western Slope Open begins Monday

The Clinton Smith tennis courts at Lincoln Park are resurfaced and will be used again for the Taco Bell Western Slope Open.

The annual tournament begins at 8 a.m. on Monday and could conclude by July 26, thanks in part to the four courts at Lincoln Park, Tournament Director Lena Elliott said.

The tournament takes place at the Elliott Tennis Center on the campus of Colorado Mesa University and at Canyon View Park.

There are 250 people and 560 entries registered to play in this year’s tournament.

Players are encouraged to stop by Brownson Arena in the Maverick Center this afternoon and Sunday afternoon to check for times for their first match. If participants are not able to come by, they can cal 248-1900 or 248-1901 during the day on Saturday and Sunday.

The tournament could end one day early with more evening and night matches scheduled this year.

Another new feature to the tournament this year is a pickleball draw. Elliott said there are between 30 and 40 entries for three different draws.

The men’s open singles tournament begins Thursday night. There is a women’s open singles draw for the third consecutive year.

The annual Taco Bell party is scheduled again this year at 6 p.m. Friday in the wrestling room.

Limited parking is available in the west lot. The parking garage is open for players and spectators.
