Taylor’s 7 RBI lift Gene Taylor’s
Owen Taylor drove in seven runs as Gene Taylor’s won two American Legion baseball games at the Cherry Creek Classic tournament Friday.
Gene Taylor’s scored eight runs in the top of the seventh inning to put away Valor Christian 13-2.
Easton Woods pitched the first six innings to earn the win. He allowed six hits and one run, walked one and struck out four.
Taylor led a 16-hit attack with three hits, including a double, and Zack Cox had a double among his two hits and joined Taylor with three RBI. Caden Woods, Kyle Serrano, Noah Sanchez and Cameron Campbell also had two hits apiece.
Sanchez struck out 10 batters in six innings to lead Gene Taylor’s to a 6-1 win over Colorado Travelers. Sanchez scattered six hits and walked one batter, and Kale Smith pitched a scoreless seventh inning.
Taylor hit two home runs to drive in four runs, and Cox and Tristan Lafferty joined him with two hits.
Gene Taylor’s (3-0) continues tournament play today.
Fruita reaches title game
Jacob Worth threw a complete game Friday as the Fruita U18 summer baseball team defeated Summit 8-3 to finish pool play at the Rifle Austin Booth Memorial Wood Bat Tournament with a 3-1 mark.
That earned Fruita (8-5) a spot in today’s 7 p.m. championship game against either Rifle or Lakewood.
Worth scattered six hits, walked two batters and struck out nine.
Marshall Gore paced Fruita’s 10-hit attack with three hits, and Gabe Treider had two hits. Sam Graf and Worth each hit a double.
