Teen struck by car, killed in Delta

A 16-year-old girl was killed after she was struck by a car in Delta on Sunday night, Delta police announced Tuesday.

Police said Ariel Davis and another person were walking in the area of 1714 H Road just before 10 p.m. Sunday when Davis was struck by a car traveling west on H Road.

Davis initially was taken to Delta County Memorial Hospital, then later transferred to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction. Police said she was pronounced dead at St. Mary’s at 9:30 p.m. Monday.

The person who was walking with Davis, who wasn’t identified, wasn’t injured, police spokeswoman Jamie Head said.

Head described the area where Davis was walking as a “curvy, rural road” with no sidewalks. She said she didn’t know where Davis was in the road when she was hit.

Head said the driver stayed at the scene after the accident happened.

She said she didn’t have any other information about the accident and that officers haven’t completed the accident report.

The crash remains under investigation. No arrests have been made.
