Tigers move up to No. 1 in football poll
Grand Junction is the new No. 1 ranked football team in the Denver Post Class 5A media poll.
The Tigers (2-0) received nine first-place votes and takes over the top-ranking after Mullen’s 12-7 loss to Grandview on Friday. It was Mullen’s first loss in 34 games, according to the Denver Post. Mullen fell to sixth in the rankings.
Grand Junction defeated Overland 35-0 on Friday night and hosts Standley Lake at 8 p.m. Friday at Stocker Stadium.
Palisade moved up one spot to No. 3 in the Class 3A poll following its 45-35 victory over D’Evelyn. The Bulldogs have one first-place vote. Vista Ridge remained No. 1 and Canon City moved up to No. 2. Glenwood Springs, which lost 42-0 to Montrose, dropped from No. 2 to No. 9.
Montrose (3-0) moved into the top 10 in the Class 4A poll after its victory over Glenwood Springs. Valor Christian has all 14 first-place votes.
Olathe (1-1) fell from No. 3 to No. 5 in the Class 2A poll after losing to top-ranked Florence on the road. Hotchkiss remained No. 2 in the Class 1A poll.
