Tigers maintain top ranking in Class 5A; Bulldogs stay No. 2 in 3A

Grand Junction is the top-ranked high school football team in Class 5A for the third consecutive week.

Grand Junction received two more first-place votes and has eight total, but Grandview (3-1) gained more overall points in the poll. Grandview has four first-place votes and trails the Tigers by 15 points.

Mullen moved up to third and Columbine is fourth.

Grand Junction hosts Fountain-Fort Carson (3-1) at 6 p.m. Saturday at Stocker Stadium in the Tigers’ final non-conference game of the season. The Trojans were on the verge of a top 10 ranking before a 14-6 loss last weekend to Class 4A Pine Creek.

Palisade remained No. 2 in the Class 3A poll after a 31-21 road victory over defending Western Slope Conference champion Glenwood Springs. The Bulldogs (4-0) host Moffat County (1-3) for homecoming at noon Saturday at Palisade High School. Moffat County picked up its first win of the season, defeating Delta 22-14 last weekend after three losses to three ranked teams.

Rifle (4-0) dropped out of the top 10 despite a 22-21 victory over previously undefeated Battle Mountain.

Montrose (5-0) remained No. 6 in the Class 4A poll with the top eight teams staying put. Valor Christian (4-0) has all 14 first-place votes and is No. 1. Monarch is second followed by Longmont, Pine Creek and Castle View.

Olathe (2-2) dropped out of the top 10 in the Class 2A poll despite a 17-12 victory over Basalt.

Brush (4-0) moved up to the top spot after Florence (4-1) was upset by Trinidad. Florence dropped down to No. 4. Aspen (3-1) moved up one spot to No. 6.
