Tigers repeatedly find the net in easy victory
Grand Junction’s girls soccer team had no problem finishing Tuesday.
Three days after failing to mark up tight on defense and put shots away on offense, the Tigers defeated Montrose 6-0 in a Southwestern League game in Montrose.
“After this weekend, the girls made a commitment to come out today and play tough,” Grand Junction coach Adrea Tilford said. “The defense played very well the entire game. It was great to see them come out and play hard.
“The offense started to click and I was very pleased with the way the girls finished. We didn’t have very many shots on goal, but we converted.”
Grand Junction (9-2, 7-1 SWL) scored on six of its 11 shots on goal. The Tigers limited Montrose (5-6-1, 2-4-1 SWL) to three shots.
Jordan Drake scored two goals and added one assist. Stephanie Drake, Whitney Raven and Ashley Wallace each scored one goal and had one assist. Danielle Erickson scored a goal as well.
Glenwood Springs 3, Palisade 2: The Demons scored two goals in the second half for the Western Slope League victory.
Glenwood Springs (12-1, 10-0 WSL) took 24 shots. Cori Gera, Nicole Busk and McKayla Mansfield scored.
Flannery Davis scored one goal and assisted on Megan Crawford’s goal for the Bulldogs (4-6-1, 4-3-1 WSL). Natalie Combs assisted on Davis’ goal.
Fruita Monument won its third consecutive game, defeating Eagle Valley 12-3 at Canyon View Park.
Aiden Woomer led the Wildcats with five goals. The Wildcats (9-5) have outscored their past two opponents 26-5.
Central swept Montzuma-Cortez 7-0 in a Southwestern League dual early Tuesday afternoon before the rain could threaten to postpone the dual for a second time.
The Warriors (6-3) won all three singles matches without giving up a game.
Postponed: The dual between Fruita Monument and Grand Junction was postponed because of weather. The dual is rescheduled for 4 p.m. today.
Three Class 3A Western Slope League baseball games were postponed because of inclement weather.
Hotchkiss-Cedaredge, Olathe-Gunnison and Coal Ridge-Grand Valley will play at 4 p.m. today.
