Tigers,‘Cats fare well in Lakewood
Grand Junction got a win from Greg Eccher in the boys 1,600-meter run and three of its girls relays Thursday at the Lakewood Invitational track and field meet Thursday.
Meanwhile, Fruita Monument got wins from two boys relays and one girls relay.
Eccher won the 1,600 in 4 minutes, 39.89 seconds.
Also placing in the top five in the 18-team boys meet for Grand Junction were: Quinton Walton, second in the discus (149 feet, 10 inches) and third in the shot put (46-10); Brody Cupp, second in the 200 (23.09); Michael McKnight, second in the shot put (46-10.75); Allen Adair, fourth in the 1,600 (4:51.76); Robert Harrison, fourth in the long jump (20-6.5); Noah Bradshaw, fifth in the 800 (2:07.88); Stockton Rock, fifth in the high jump (5-8); and Austin Taylor, fifth in the long jump (20-2.25).
Fruita Monument’s boys won the 1,600 relay in 3:28.6 and the 3,200 relay in 8:36.14.
In the 19-team girls meet, Grand Junction won the 400 relay (50.69), 800 relay (1:49.1) and 1,600 relay (4:12.68) and Fruita Monument won the medley relay (1:54.08) and took second in the 400 relay (50.78).
Also placing in the top five for Grand Junction were: Sydni Brandon, second in the long jump (15-5.5); Jill Payne, third in the 100 (12.53); Madison Marsh, third in the high jump (5-0); Erika Meister, fourth in the 1,600 (5:54.32); and Cassandra Grigware, fifth in the 1,600 (5:58.26).
For Fruita, Sloan Black placed third in the triple jump (33-6.5) and Octavia Martinez was fifth in the shot put (31-10.5).
Battle Mountain 4, Palisade 0: The Bulldogs gave up their first goal of the season and suffered their first loss in 4A Western Slope game.
Palisade (7-1, 7-1 WSL) finished with six shots on goal.
Logan Nash scored three goals for the Huskies (10-1, 9-1).
Grand Valley 9, Vail Christian 1: Lauren Paskett and Ashlynn Speakman each scored twice for the Cardinals (5-2, 4-1 3A WSL).
