Top-ranked Rampart runs past Fruita Monument boys

The Fruita Monument High School boys basketball team found out exactly how good a No. 1 team is.

Thursday, the Wildcat lost to Rampart, MaxPreps.com’s top-ranked team, 99-48 in Colorado Springs.

“They shoot the lights out,” Fruita Monument coach Dave Fox said. “They put on a lot of pressure, and they are a very good team.”

The Wildcats discovered quickly how talented Rampart was. The Rams controlled the first quarter, jumping to a 27-10 lead. Rampart extended its lead to 56-17 at halftime.

Rampart had five different players finish in double figures, led by Alex Koehler’s 19 points. The Wildcats were led by their post players — Drew Bridges had 14 points and Colter McKenzie had nine.

Fruita Monument plays another top five team when they tip-off tonight against Fountain-Fort Carson at 7:30 p.m.
