Trio of former GJ Rockies selected to all-star team
Three former Grand Junction Rockies players were selected Tuesday to the South Atlantic League All-Star team.
Outfielder David Dahl, the 2012 Pioneer League MVP, third baseman Ryan McMahon and designated hitter Correlle Prime will represent the Asheville Tourists on the Southern Division team in the all-star game June 17 in Hickory, North Carolina.
Prime, who is playing first base for the Tourists, is hitting .275 with 11 home runs and 40 RBI through 52 games. His run production is second only to McMahon’s 43 RBI.
Prime’s increased power has turned heads in the Rockies’ organization. He hit only eight home runs in his two years in Grand Junction, seven last season when he was the Rockies’ everyday first baseman.
McMahon is second on the Tourists to Prime in home runs with 10 and is hitting .269 in his first season in Class A baseball.
Dahl, who spent most of last season on the disabled list with a torn hamstring, has shown he’s healthy again, hitting .272 with nine home runs and 26 RBI as Asheville’s everyday center fielder.
South Atlantic League managers, coaches, local media and front-office executives vote on the all-star team.
The Grand Junction Rockies’ third season begins June 16 in Ogden. Players are due to arrive early next week, with an exhibition game against the Denver Generals at 6 p.m. on June 14 at Suplizio Field.
The Rockies’ home opener is at 7:05 p.m. on June 20 against Idaho Falls.
Season tickets and individual game tickets are on sale at the Rockies’ front office at Suplizio Field, 1315 North Ave., or online at GJRockies.com.
