Tucker, MacAskill lead Palisade volleyball team to win
Emily Tucker had 12 kills and four aces to go with a 12-kill performance from Alexandra MacAskill on Saturday as Palisade’s volleyball team surged to a 25-17, 25-19, 25-21 Class 4A Western Slope League victory over Summit in Frisco.
Gracey Higman added three aces and 30 assists and Abby Thiessen chipped in 20 digs, helping the Bulldogs (9-5, 6-1 WSL) remain in second place in the league standings behind Eagle Valley (12-2, 7-0).
“We wound up winning a lot of long rallies and with the way (Summit) played, the score doesn’t show how close it was,” Bulldogs coach Wendy MacAskill said. “We had to fight for a lot of points.”
Palisade hosts Eagle Valley on Friday in a match with league-title implications.
Montrose 3, Durango 0: The Indians (11-4, 4-1 Southwestern League) remained one victory behind Fruita Monument in the league standings with their 25-20, 25-22, 25-20 victory. The Indians host the Wildcats on Wednesday.
Glenwood Springs 3, Rifle 0: The Demons swept the Bears 25-20, 25-16, 25-15 in Rifle. It was the fourth consecutive loss for the Bears (3-13, 0-9), who haven’t won a set in league play this season.
Soroco 3, De Beque 0: The Rams won 25-18, 25-18, 25-7 at De Beque, giving the Dragons (4-10, 2-3 2A/1A WSL) their third consecutive loss.
Martin Corral scored three goals during Delta’s 6-0 Class 3A WSL victory against the Skiers. Danny Mendoza, Brandon Harper and Marcos Edmondson also scored for Delta (9-3, 5-1 WSL), which sits alone atop the league standings thanks to the victory. Goalie Joseph Holiman had five saves for the Panthers.
Summit 4, Palisade 0: The Tigers (7-4, 5-3 4A WSL) took a 3-0 halftime lead en route to a victory over the Bulldogs (1-11, 1-9) in Frisco.
