UPDATE: Two Mesa wrestlers remain in hunt at nationals

PUEBLO — Colorado Mesa wrestlers Chester Granard and Nick Petersen won consolation matches and are guaranteed to place in the NCAA Division II national tournament.

Granard bounced back from a quarterfinal loss with a 10-5 victory in the 165-pound consolation bracket.

Petersen overcame a heartbreaking first round overtime loss with two wins in the consolation bracket.

The Mavericks are in 20th place with 11.5 points. RMAC champion Nebraska-Kearney is in first place with 56.5 points.

Mesa’s James Martinez (141), Jon Gappmaier (157) and Paco Retana (285) were eliminated in their first national tournament.
