UPDATE: More rain headed for valley; flood warning in effect
An already soaked Grand Valley could be in store for more heavy rain this afternoon and evening, as another series of storms is pushing across eastern Utah and western Colorado.
The National Weather Service in Grand Junction has issued a flash flood warning for west-central Mesa County until 7:30 p.m. At 3:30 p.m., Weather Service radar indicated slow-moving thunderstorms with heavy rainfall southwest of Grand Junction. Forecasters said up to 2 inches of rainfall has already fallen in some portions of the county, with additional rainfall expected from approaching storms.
Runoff from the rainfall could cause flash flooding in washes and low-water areas at the western end of the Uncompahgre Plateau, including the Redlands and Colorado National Monument, according to the Weather Service.
Officials are cautioning motorists not to travel across flooded roads.
