Valley’s 103-pounders more than hold their own on the mat
Each wrestling season presents its own strengths and weaknesses.
It changes from season to season, but there always seems to be a dominant weight class for local teams.
That weight class for District 51 teams this year could very well be the lightest of them all.
Three 103-pounders are dominating opponents this season, and they’ll all be back next season.
Here’s a look at the Western Slope’s top 103-pounders:
Matthew Gurule, Central
On the Mat Ranking: 1st, Class 5A
Past Accomplishments: 2008 Class 5A state 103-pound champion
Tournament Titles This Season: Wildcat Duals (112 pounds), Mesa State Duals, Warrior Classic, Colfax Smackdown, Palisade Invitational

Dylon Thompson, Grand Junction
On the Mat Ranking: 10th, Class 5A
Past Accomplishments: 2nd place, 93 pounds, Fargo Nationals last summer

Daniel Salazar, Palisade
