Vavrick takes 10th at meet in Gunnison
Daniel Vavrick finished 10th in the Mountaineer Invitational cross-country race Saturday morning in Gunnison, helping the Colorado Mesa men’s team finish third with 78 points, behind national powers Western State (24) and Adams State (70).
Vavrick crossed the finish line of the 8-kilometer race in 26 minutes, 59.02 seconds, with Western’s John Patterson winning in 26:07.3.
Blake Graf placed 13th in 27:23.43 and Seth Knighton 22nd in 27:58.84.
Lauren Lipski paced the CMU women’s team with an 11th-place finish in 19:39.30 in the 5K. Alexia Chapman placed 15th in 19:55.77, with Ashlyn Brent (20:23.66) and Maya Wilson (20:26.20) placing 24th and 25th, respectively.
Mesa’s women finished fourth with 86 points, behind Adams State (31) and Western State (37). The Mountaineers’ Georgia Porter won the race in 17:58.94.
Kristen Kirby, Emily Beckley and Frederikke Karst all won first-round matches in the women’s A draw of MSU Denver Invitational at Metro State.
In the men’s A draw, Max Lindqvist won a first-set tiebreaker in a straight-set victory in the opening round. Christian Zanca won his first-round match in the men’s D flight.
