Walters State coach retires

Ken Campbell, whose Walters State (Tenn.) Community College baseball team won the 2006 JUCO World Series title, has retired.

Campbell completed a 39-year coaching career with 1,200 victories, 650 during his 14-year tenure at Walters State.

He said getting to the 2013 JUCO World Series helped him decide to retire.

“This last World Series was special,” Campbell said in a press release. “I had told my assistant coaches that I’d like to get back out to the World Series one more time before I retired, and if we hadn’t make it this year, I would have probably stayed on one more year to try to get back out there. Since we made it this year, I felt it was time to retire.”
