RSSWeinberg, one doubles title hopes end
DENVER - Spencer Weinberg had to settle for second place instead of a second consecutive state Class 5A No. 1 singles tennis title.
Highlands Ranch senior Hayden Sabatka defeated the Grand Junction High School junior 6-1, 6-1 in the championship finals at Gates Tennis Center.
Weinberg took advantage of an open field last year to win the state title as a sophomore.
Grand Junction’s No. 1 doubles team of Jake Filutze and Owen Gardner didn’t have much luck either.
Cherry Creek’s Spencer Anderson and Jack Greene defeated the Tigers’ duo 6-2, 6-4 in the championship finals. It was Filutze and Gardner’s only loss of the season.
