Wildcats’ defense shuts out Durango

Fruita Monument didn’t allow a shot on goal as the Wildcats beat Durango 3-0 in Southwestern League boys soccer Saturday.

Noah Nelson scored two goals, and Wesley Padgett scored the other for Fruita, which improved to 8-2, 5-0 SWL.

Wildcats goalkeeper Dominic didn’t have to make a save as Fruita posted its fourth straight shutout in league play.

Pine Creek 2, Montrose 0: Pine Creek scored both of its goals in the first half, and its two goalkeepers combined to make six saves.


Savannah Heebner limited Grand Junction to one hit and struck out 13 batters as Castle View defeated the Tigers 3-0 in a nonleague game.

Heebner didn’t walk a batter as Castle View improved to 10-7.

■ Cedaredge routed Grand Valley 15-5 and 21-3 to sweep a 3A District 5 doubleheader. The Bruins (11-6, 5-2 district) collected 27 hits and 14 walks in the two games.

Winning pitcher Marissa Cantrell also tripled, double and drove in three runs in Game 1. Raylee Van de Lindee won the second game, and Cantrell and Heather Wilczek each had three hits to pace the Bruins’ 14-hit attack.

■ Durango rallied in both games to sweep a nonleague doubleheader from Rifle.

Boys tennis

Fruita Monument swept the four doubles matches to offset Durango’s sweep of the singles as the Wildcats defeated the Demons 4-3 in a Southwestern League dual. Colton Reimer and Sam Graf won their No. 3 doubles match 6-0, 6-0.


Durango defeated Grand Junction 25-19, 25-11, 25-20 in SWL play. Courtney Gopinath led Grand Junction with six kills, and Kayla Roberts added five kills and 21 digs.
