Zemzonak field goal lifts CMU to victory

Colorado Mesa University kicker Alex Zemezonak made a 17-yard field goal with nine seconds left to give the Mavericks a 31-29 victory over Black Hills State in Spearfish, S.D.

Mesa (1-3, 1-1 RMAC) rallied from an early 10-0 deficit to take a 28-16 lead only to see the Yellow Jackets (0-3, 0-2 RMAC) rally to take a 29-28 lead early in the fourth quarter.

Mesa quarterback Jason Haferman completed 18 of 28 passes for 157 yards with one interception in his first start. The junior rushed for three touchdowns. Mesa running back Jake Cimolino had 33 carries for 196 yards and one touchdown.

The Mavericks overcame four turnovers and a season-high 18 penalties for 191 yards.
