Homecoming means being at home

Maverick cross-country teams host rare meet in GJ this weekend

It’s homecoming week at Colorado Mesa University.
All the fall sports teams are home, including the men’s and women’s cross country teams.
The Mavericks are hosting an open invitational at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Matchett Park. The men’s course is 8,000 meters (8 kilometers) and the women’s course is 6,000 meters (6K).
It is Mesa’s first open invitational meet since 2008, when the Mavericks also hosted the RMAC Championships. It is the first home meet for the men’s program, which started in 2011.
“We want people to see our facilities,” CMU coach Matt Canterbury said. “It also gives our kids a chance to have ownership of their own meet and not travel.”
