Cyclists in the Collegiate Men’s A race Sunday in the Maverick Classic Road Race had to deal with cold, rain and even some snow on the course.

Rain, cold make winning Maverick Classic more rewarding

Spencer Oswald was soaked, shivering and smiling as he glided across the finish line.
With a fist pump and thrusting his arms into the air, Oswald let out an empathic and prolonged “yeah!”
On a day when the weather was the fiercest opponent, the Colorado Mesa University rider took the lead on the fourth and final 17-mile lap and pulled away Sunday to win the men’s Maverick Classic Road Race.
Ariane Horbach made it a great day for Colorado Mesa by winning the women’s race. This is the second straight year she swept both races at the Maverick Classic, after winning the criterium on Saturday.
