Grand Junction High School’s Jacob Trujillo won three state titles for the Tigers and wrestled in four state championship matches. Trujillo’s ability to always remain in control as well as his willingness to wrestle in big, national events helped him win two awards from the Colorado Chapter of the Wrestling Hall of Fame. Trujillo is one of five Western Slope people to win an award, which will be handed out Saturday.

Around these parts, they get their wrestling due.
Grand Junction High School’s Jacob Trujillo, Paonia High’s Jesse Reed, Colorado Mesa University wrestler James Martinez and his coach, Chuck Pipher, need no introductions to Western Slope wrestling fans.
On the other hand, you may not know Robert Garcia, but if you follow wrestling in The Daily Sentinel, you’ve seen his work: large, colorful, informative graphics previewing wrestling seasons and state tournaments.
All five are so good at what they do, the rest of the state took notice, which is why each will be honored with an award this Saturday during the 17th annual Hall of Fame Awards Banquet put on by the Colorado Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
