As the umpire watches to make sure the baseball clears the wall for a home run Friday, Gene Taylor’s infielder Tanner Huskey heads to first base. The baseball left the park, a solo home run for Huskey in a 13-3 victory for Gene Taylor’s in the first game of a doubleheader.

Gene Taylor’s splits DH in first home games of Legion season

Finally getting to play at home came with mixed results for the Gene Taylor’s American Legion baseball team Friday: a 13-3 win and a 9-4 loss in a Legion A Elite League doubleheader against the Greeley Gojos.
First, Gene Taylor’s got a win it desperately needed after having its psyche bruised in a tough California tournament.
It ended a stretch of 21 road games to start the season by going 1-3 in the USA Premier Baseball Firecracker Classic, but that brought Gene Taylor’s home, where it responded by battering Greeley with 13 hits in the opener.
