Grand Junction’s Sydni Brandon goes around the defense of Regis Jesuit’s Noelle Cahill to score two of her 21 points Friday night in the Tigers’ 54-53 victory over the Raiders in the second round of the Class 5A state playoffs. Brandon’s basket gave Grand Junction its first lead late in the fourth quarter and the Tigers held on to knock the defending state champs out of the playoffs.

Brandon lifts Grand Junction into Class 5A Sweet 16

It took until late in the fourth quarter Friday, but Sydni Brandon finally got the gym at Grand Junction High School rocking.
The Tigers didn’t lead until 2 minutes, 26 seconds remained, and once Brandon put them up 54-52, she wasn’t about to let a victory in the second round of the Class 5A girls basketball state playoffs get away.
Brandon, playing with a nasty headache, scored 21 points, and Tori Catlett added 14 points as third-seeded Grand Junction held off an upset attempt from No. 6 Regis Jesuit, winning 54-53.
