Dragon Tales: De Beque hoops teams writing success stories

As a cold, winter rain patters outside an otherwise quiet gymnasium, the De Beque High School girls basketball team is running through a series of drills.

There are drills for defensive footwork and shooting, after which Dragons coach Aaron Largent gives a quick lecture on the importance of teamwork.

A single finger can say “I’m number one” or “you screwed up,” Largent said, but multiple fingers provide support, strength and balance. To illustrate this, one of his players unsuccessfully attempts a push-up with one finger, then easily completes a push-up with an entire palm.

Then De Beque is working again.
