Her coaches think Audrey Rose Kachin has enough leg to break the national high school record for a field goal kicked by a female. Field goals are rare in 8-man football, but Plateau Valley is hoping to get her a chance. Kachin, a college-bound soccer player, has kicked a
50-yard field goal in practice. The national girls record is 48 yards.

Audrey Rose Kachin having a blast kicking for Cowboys

In gender-masking football pads and a helmet, Audrey Rose Kachin looks like any other member of the Plateau Valley High School football team.
When she kicks a football, it’s clear she’s not.
Kachin, nearly every time she puts her right leg through a kick, gets that thwack of cleat meeting leather that signals a solid strike.
It’s the unmistakable sound of a quality kicker. The Cowboys, who play in the 8-man Western Slope League, have a special-teams weapon.
“She strikes the ball so consistently,” Plateau Valley coach Dave Bristol said. “I don’t know that I’ve seen anything like it.”
