Kelly Slivka

Features Reporter

Job description

Kelly reports on and writes human-interest stories that tend to allow more room for character and color than the standard daily news.

Bachelor of Arts degree in English and ecology and evolutionary biology from the University of Colorado, Boulder.
Master of Arts degree in science, health and environmental reporting from New York University.
Master of Fine Arts degree in creative writing and environment from Iowa State University.

Kelly grew up in the suburbs of Denver. After garnering her undergraduate degree, she moved to New England and spent several years as a whale ecologist. But she missed writing and felt the perfect tonic would be to combine her love of science with her love of words. So she studied science journalism at NYU, then went to round out her creative side, too, by studying creative writing in Iowa. But Iowa is no place for a Colorado native. She’s happy to be back in the beauty of her home state, writing every day.

Kelly lives with her partner and inevitably increasing number of pets and loves doing just about anything the great outdoors can offer. She also writes essays, short stories and poetry.
