A deceased man was found Monday inside a pickup truck that crashed into the Colorado River late Friday.
A dive team from Summit County came to assist with the rescue and helped remove the vehicle and the body Monday afternoon. According to the Colorado State Patrol, the victim was the driver of the truck, a 2000 red Toyota pickup, but he has not yet been identified. The cause of the accident has also not been determined.
State Patrol received a call regarding the accident at 11:13 p.m. Friday. The truck, which was towing a camper, was traveling westbound on Interstate 70 between mile markers 52 and 53 when it went over the guardrail and into the river. The truck was fully submerged.
The camper remained on the highway and was removed Friday.
Rescue teams shut down the right westbound lane on I-70 for a portion of the day on Monday as the recovery took place. All lanes reopened just before 4 p.m.
