Fire ripped through a four-unit townhouse building in Fruita this morning, in the 400 block of David Court.
Witnesses at the scene said that they believed there were no serious injuries associated with the fire, and a small child and multiple animals in one of the units were believed to have escaped safely.
The townhouse building caught fire — possibly on the rear, outside part of one of the residences — around 10 a.m. A mail carrier is believed to have alerted neighbors, who called 911 and knocked out doors to warn residents.
There are four units associated with the building, and firefighters attacked each of the units to halt the spread of the fire. The unit where the fire appears to have begun looks like a total loss.
