Grand Junction water users must comply with mandatory irrigation water restrictions starting today, according to the city.

Residents can water lawns and yards only three times a week in August.

Watering reduces to twice a week in September and once a week in October.

Grand Junction's roughly 9,700 water users already were under voluntary water restrictions because of prolonged drought conditions.

The restrictions are the result of the ongoing drought and the recommendations outlined in the Grand Valley Regional Water Conservation Plan.

Water restrictions also are in effect for the city's facilities, including golf courses and parks.
