A suspect allegedly involved in a shooting that occurred Tuesday morning in Grand Junction has been apprehended after a brief pursuit.
Grand Junction police officers responded to a gunshot victim at approximately 4:20 a.m. Tuesday morning.
A few hours later, a suspect believed to be involved was in custody. He was detained by GJPD and Mesa County Sheriff’s deputies.
The male victim was reported to be in the roadway near 29 Road and North Avenue when officers arrived. He was conscious and breathing and was transported to the hospital, the GJPD Facebook post said.
The roadway was closed for the investigation. Rocky Mountain Elementary was also briefly placed on lockdown while the suspect was apprehended.
GJPD spokesperson Heidi Davidson said the suspect was initially contacted while he was driving a car in Clifton. He fled and a brief pursuit ended when the suspect crashed the vehicle and fled on foot.
