Character writing topic of workshop

"How to Write Authentic African-American Characters," a free program hosted by the Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers, will go from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Business Incubator, 2591 Legacy Way.

This workshop will be led by Jason Henry Evens, a teacher and author of "The Gallowglass."

Open reading scheduled in Fruita

There will be an opening reading from 7–8:30 p.m. Thursday at Bestslope Coffee Co., 129 N. Peach St., in Fruita.

Store hosts local author for signing

Joshua Carpenter, author of "You're Not One of Us," will be visiting with readers and signing books from 2–4 p.m. Friday at Barnes & Noble Booksellers, 2451 Patterson Road.

Life coach, musician and now an author, Carpenter writes about growing up in an unstable family.
