Summer reading program is beginning

Summer Reading at Mesa County Libraries will begin Monday and continue through Aug. 3.

Space is this year's theme in honor of the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing.

Those signed up for the free program for children and adults can set goals, read and win prizes through the summer.

Grand prizes include kids telescopes, space science kits, LitKits, gift certificates and more.

To sign up for Summer Reading on Monday, go to any library branch or to mesacounty libraries.org/srp.

Writers' Night focuses on writing muse

If you're looking for some writing inspiration, then the next Writers' Night might be for you.

"How Do I Get My Muse to Come Out and Play?" with Rebecca Mullen is the title for the workshop from 5:30–7:30 p.m. Tuesday at The Art Center, 1803 N. Seventh St.

"Come explore new methods, new systems, new pens and remember that writing is play and meant to be fun," said information about this Writers' Night from the Western Colorado Writers' Forum.

Four writers set to share work at Lithic

Join four writers for an evening of words from 7–8:30 p.m. Saturday at Lithic Bookstore and Gallery, 138 S. Park Square, Unit 202, in Fruita.

Those writers are: Adriene Garbini and Alex DeCarli, who run The Range art space in Saguache and What Nothing Press; Emily Stebbins, a poet from Eureka, California; and Tori Miner, a writer barista, mountain bike guide/coach.

Memoir author highlighted with signing

Author Carolyn White will be meeting readers and signing copies of her books from 2–4 p.m. Saturday at Barnes & Noble Booksellers, 2451 Patterson Road.

White is the author of the memoirs "Bricks Underneath a Hoop Skirt: Book One" and "Trucks are for Girls: Book Two."

In "Bricks Underneath a Hoop Skirt," White wrote about working and living at a primitive, isolated guest ranch. "Trucks are For Girls" is a sequel, detailing White's adventures after leaving the guest ranch.
