Cultural icons and landscapes scenes will be featured at the First Friday art reception from 5–9 p.m. Friday, June 7, at The Main Street Gallery, 412 Main St.

"Landscapes and Portraits" is an exhibit of acrylic paintings of American cultural icons by Michael Hurshman and oil and pastel landscape paintings by Cynthia Underwood, both local artists. The exhibit will be on display through July 2.

Underwood "finds inspiration through light, shadows, mood and change of seasons" according to a news release from the gallery.

Underwood grew up in the South, Midwest and Southwest and has been creating art for about 10 years.

Hurshman focuses "on portraits of American cultural icons (writers and musicians primarily) who have shaped our artistic landscape during the past 100+ years," the news release said.

Originally from southeastern Connecticut, he's been a serious art collector and student of art history for more than 30 years.
