Take a dive into the cool art scene at these opening receptions happening in the area:

■ The Recycled Books Juried Arts & Craft Show opening reception is planned for 5–7 p.m. Friday, July 5, at the Central Library, Mesa County Libraries, 443 N. Sixth St. The exhibit will showcase pieces created from recycled books. Works will be on display through July 31. Visit or call 243-4442 for information.

■ An opening reception for "Found: A CMU Alumni Art & Design Show" will be from 5–8 p.m. Friday, July 5, at 437CO Art Gallery, 437 Colorado Ave. The art gallery will host the national juried exhibition through Aug. 23. ■ "Beneath the Camo" is a benefit art show for the Veterans Art Center that features art by members of the center. An opening reception will be from 7–10 p.m. Friday, July 5, at Uncanny Valley Art Gallery, 455 Main St. Visit for information.

■ Red Lion Arts Gallery & Studio will host a Summer Schmoozer art event from 6–9 p.m. Friday, July 5, at the gallery, 546 Main St., in the lower level. The event is an opportunity for artists in the area to meet other local artists, network and engage with the community. All artists — from painters to poets — are welcome to the "meet and greet" type setting. There will be live art, complimentary wine tasting and catering by Jimmy John's. ■ The "Master Exhibition" opening reception is from 6–8 p.m. Saturday, July 6, at Craig Gallery, 128 E. Third St. in Palisade. ■ The Blue Pig Gallery, 101 W. Third St. in Palisade, will host a reception from noon–3 p.m. Sunday, July 7, featuring works by artist Mary Pat Ettinger.
