Actively chill out

Grand Valley Days, an annual festival in Parachute, has the theme "Chillin' Country Style" and will be full of activity, despite the "Chillin'."

On Friday, there will be a fishing derby at Parachute Ponds State Wildlife Area and "Dumbo" can ve viewed at the evening Movies Under the Stars at the Grand Valley Recreation Center.

Saturday will begin with a 10:30 a.m. parade, followed by a community barbecue and music at Beasley Park. There also will be a cornhole tournament, car show and rodeo.

Sunday's agenda includes an ice cream social and music at the historic schoolhouse.

Sunday, Aug. 18

Into the old West

Romancing the West will be visiting Grand Junction and will take an audience on a trip through the old West.

"Time Travels Through The American West" with singer/songwriting Christina Lynn Martin and cowboy poet and balladeer Butch Martin, will use historic photographs, film, poetry and music to tell the story of western expansionism over hundreds of years.

This performance will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at The Art Center, 1803 N. Seventh St.

Thursday, Aug. 22 Purposeful comedy

Adam Grabowski is funny and purposeful, hilarious but still serious about speaking out about depression, anxiety and mental health.

You might have seen his comedy routines during Season 11 of "America's Got Talent," and now you'll be able to see him in Grand Junction.

"Stand Up 4 Mental Health" will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, at Avalon Theatre, 645 Main St. Doors open at 6 p.m.
