A 31-year-old Grand Junction man died in a motorcycle crash Tuesday night.
The Mesa County Coroner identified Ryan Hargett as the victim in the crash. Hargett was wearing a helmet, according to a news release.
The crash happened Tuesday night around 8:20 p.m. Officers were responding to a different crash report near the 300 block of South First Street near the Amtrak station. En route, officers saw a crash near the intersection of Fourth Street and Ute Avenue.
A preliminary investigation suggests several motorcycles were traveling southbound on First Street when one rider collided with a concrete barrier, prompting the police call. Police believe the fatality occurred when the riders were trying to return to the first crash and one of them, Hargett, ran a red light and collided with a truck. The first rider was not seriously injured in the crash and police are still working to determine the nature of the accidents. The coroner ruled the death an accident and so far no citations have been issued.
