Child OK after falling out of window

The Palisade Fire Department responded to a potentially frightening situation on Wednesday where a young child was seen falling out of a window.

Palisade Fire Chief Richard Rupp said Thursday that the child was released from the hospital with "a little raspberry" on the top of the head.

He described the incident as an accident.

The child fell about 8-10 feet, according to Rupp, and hit several objects on the way down that helped cushion the fall, including a bush.

The Palisade Fire Department was called at around 4 p.m. Wednesday to respond.

Grant applications for veterans open

The Western Colorado Community Foundation has announced a new grant opportunity through the Trutta Fund to Support Veterans.

The Trutta Fund was established by a local donor to support organizations that serve veterans and their families. The name of the fund is in honor of the USS Trutta SS 421, the submarine that the donor served on in the early 1960s. The fund was created as a way to support and give back to those who served.

The grant application process will close at 5 p.m. Sept. 16. Organizations must be a qualified 501(c)(3), public school or tax-exempt public service agency providing services within Mesa and/or Delta County.
