AARP to offer free tax help to seniors
The AARP/Tax Aide Program will offer free tax preparation for individuals in the Grand Valley and surrounding regions, through April 15.
Tax preparation hours are 9 a.m.–3 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, at the Wells Fargo at Fourth and Main streets in the annex building, and 9:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m., Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at Wells Fargo, 2808 North Ave., downstairs.
Taxes are done on a walk-in basis. There is no age restriction or income limit. The focus is on the basic personal return. Bring a photo ID for each person on the return as well as a social security card for each person. Have all of the 2018 tax documents necessary to accurately complete the return, including information regarding health care coverage.
It is helpful to bring last year's return and, if you hope for a refund, a bank routing number and account information is required.
Seed exchange, tool drive on Saturday
Mesa County Libraries Discovery Garden seed exchange and tool drive will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, at the garden, at Fifth Street and Chipeta Avenue.
The public is invited to bring some seeds, take some seeds, and drop off gently used tools. Gardeners can learn more about the Discovery Garden and ways to get involved.
The garden project is a series of interactive and demonstrative gardens that will provide education, food, respite, and community engagement, a news release said.
A variety of gardening techniques will be modeled and plans include demonstration gardens, a children's garden, a community food plot, a food forest/uncommon fruit orchard, a pollinator garden, a seed house, a shade pavilion, benches, a shed, and a compost facility. There will be a space where people can gather for educational programs and events.
The library is also seeking grants and assistance from community partners to fund and build the project.
