Montrose officials announced they are closing the dog park until April 19, due to concerns about canine diseases being transmitted at the park.
In a press release Wednesday, the city said it was closing the park today and shutting down the dog park water fountain as well until the park reopens. They also advised dog owners to not allow their pets to use communal water bowls.
Though the city's release did not specify which diseases may be involved, reports of kennel cough have circulated in Montrose recently among dog owners. The most common symptom of this contagious respiratory ailment is a dry, hacking cough.
Parks staff are also looking for volunteers to help with a clean-up event without dogs from 10 a.m. to noon on April 17, to focus on cleaning up dog waste and spreading mulch.
