Sheriff investigates teen death at home
Mesa County sheriff's investigators are looking into the death of a 17-year-old boy at a Redlands home over the weekend.
The Mesa County Coroner's Office identified the boy Monday afternoo as Deshawn Pace of Clifton and said there wasn't anything "obviously suspicious" surrounding his death.
Deputies responded to a home in the 2400 block of Santa Rosa Lane about 10 a.m. Sunday on a report of an unresponsive teen. Deputies and other first-responders performed life-saving measures on the teen, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Sheriff's Office said the coroner will perform an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of the teen's death. Investigators say alcohol was found at the scene, but they don't know if it was a contributing factor to the teen's death. The teen was not a resident of the home.
The Coroner's Office said it could be several weeks before toxicology results come back to determine if there were drugs or alcohol in the teen's system at the time of his death.
Fruita museum closed today
Dinosaur Journey will be closed today while two water valves are replaced at the museum.
The Ute Water Conservancy District said Monday that museum leaders elected to close the museum because the work requires turning off the water supply.
The museum in Fruita will reopen at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
