A longtime Grand Junction shoe repair business has its second new owner in a little more than a year.

Scott McCloskey recently bought Mr. Cobbler, 2493 U.S. Highway 6&50 Unit 15 in the Cottonwood Mall. The business was closed for roughly six weeks as the previous owners looked for a new buyer. The store reopened in mid June and McCloskey officially became the owner at the start of July.

McCloskey said the previous owners, Steve and Cindy Dickey, are looking to retire, but have shown him the ropes as he gets going. The Dickeys bought the business from Bob Boyer, who opened Mr. Cobbler in Grand Junction in the late 1980s. He moved it to the current location in 1995.

The Dickeys bought the business to keep it open when Burney was looking to retire. Boyer has also come in to work at times, McCloskey said.

The cobbling business is new to McCloskey, but he said it is getting him out of the oilfield, which is a reason he decided to purchase Mr. Cobbler.

"It's pretty fun and exciting," McCloskey said. "I didn't realize all the different things you can do with a boot."

The business mostly works with cowboy boots, McCloskey said, but also works on women's heels, work boots and can handle sewing work.

McCloskey is the only worker at the moment and is hoping to spread the word that the business is around and back open.

"It's crazy how many people don't know that we're here," he said.

Mr. Cobbler is open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
