The Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado and the Western Slope Vietnam War Memorial Park will present the annual Veterans Day ceremony at 11:11 a.m. Monday at the park, just off Interstate 70 at the Fruita exit.
The program will feature music performances and the Pledge of Allegiance. The keynote speech will be given by Sgt. Kayla Holst, USMC, director of communications at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Deacon Doug VanHouten, USMC, will deliver the invocation and benediction.
The ceremony is open to the public. Parking is available at the park and attendees are encouraged to bring their own seating to the event, which is expected to last an hour.
Government offices closed on Monday
A number of offices will be closed Monday in observance of Veterans Day.
■ Many Mesa County offices will be closed Monday, however the Coroner's Office, Criminal Justice Services, Mesa County Landfill, or emergency functions of the Sheriff's Office will be open. ■ City of Grand Junction offices will be closed on Monday. City trash and recycling pickup service will be on the regular schedule with no delay. Monday will also be a parking meter holiday. Visitors to downtown can park for free at metered spots, including the parking garage on Rood Avenue.
Sponsors needed for Christmas wreaths
The Western Slope Patriot Guard Riders and Wreaths Across America are looking for sponsors for the annual sponsorship drive to place wreaths at local cemeteries at Christmastime.
A total of 2,500 is needed for the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado and 1,420 is needed at the Orchard Mesa Cemetery Veterans Section.
