Grand Junction authorities are investing the cause of a fire and death at the Beautifeye Day Spa, 1130 Belford Ave.
The Grand Junction Police Department and the Grand Junction Fire Department said that at about 9:30 a.m. on Friday they responded to a report of smoke at the business.
The initial investigation found that when some employees of the spa arrived at work early that day, they discovered the power was out in the building.
While investigating the cause of the outage, the workers discovered a large amount of smoke that appeared to be coming from the basement, according to a police report.
The employees immediately evacuated the building and called 911.
When the fire department arrived, firefighters determined the blaze was contained in the basement, and was no longer active. That's when firefighters discovered the body.
While those two agencies are investigating the cause of the fire and the death, the Mesa County Coroner's Office is examining the body. At this time, no positive identification has been made. Once it is, and next of kin are notified, the office will identify the deceased, the department said.
All three agencies are to release more information has it becomes available.
