The Daily Sentinel has officially shifted to a new managing editor with a familiar name taking over the editorial department.
Dale Shrull took over as The Daily Sentinel's managing editor on Thursday after working as the Sentinel's sports editor for the past two-plus years.
Former managing editor Mike Wiggins, who had held the post since May of 2013 and had been with the Sentinel more than 18 years, departed for another opportunity in Colorado journalism.
Shrull joined the Sentinel in April, 2013 as a sports writer, then moved into the Sports Editor position two years ago.
An experienced newsman, Shrull has led newsrooms in Glenwood Springs, Rifle, Montrose and Cortez during his career.
In a move earlier this winter, Tom Hesse was hired as the new city editor to handle story assignments and the newsgathering operations at the Sentinel.
Hesse is a veteran newsman who came to the Sentinel from Boise, Idaho where he held a similar position.
