Investigators worked well into the evening Wednesday interviewing witnesses and neighbors and searching a Redlands home where a man was shot to death earlier in the afternoon.
Few details were available about the shooting reported at 2:41 p.m. at 2108 Saguaro Road in the Panorama subdivision, but Mesa County sheriff's Sgt. Henry Stoffel said witnesses to the shooting were cooperating with investigators.
The Sheriff's Office wrote in a news release that investigators believe everyone involved in the incident is accounted for, but stopped short of naming anyone as a suspect.
Deputies arrived in the subdivision minutes after the shooting and approached the house with guns drawn.
Law enforcement officers canvassed the block late on Wednesday afternoon as some neighbors stood beyond a police barrier and watched.
Neighbor Bart Day said he saw an ambulance arrive at the home, then drive away without loading anybody in.
"They never even opened the back doors," he said.
Some said the home — whose owner is listed in Mesa County property records as a Tommy C. Kelly — has been regularly visited by law enforcement officers, even as recently as last week.
"It's always been a hotbed of activity," said neighbor Michael McCaughey.
McCaughey said there have been disputes between people at the house where the shooting occurred and next door at 2106 Saguaro Road.
McCaughey and other neighbors said the man who lived at the home recently lost his daughter in a car crash.
