An early morning fire in an Orchard Mesa home was quickly extinguished by the Grand Junction Fire Department Saturday.
The fire was reported just after 2:30 a.m. by the homeowners, who had already evacuated the home on Escalante Street. When crews arrived on the scene, the exterior of the structure was on fire and was beginning to spread to the attic.
Firefighters removed some of the ceiling in the home, as well as a portion of the home exterior to fully extinguish the fire. The home sustained moderate damage, according to the fire department. Both adult residents escaped unharmed as did two dogs.
Grand Junction Fire Department responded with multiple trucks and engines, as well as an ambulance and Battalion Chief, according to the fire department. Grand Junction Police Department assisted with safety and traffic control.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
