A 30-year-old Grand Junction man was advised Friday on multiple counts of child sex assault, among other charges, and was held on a cash bond after his appearance in court.
Ty Valenzuela faces three counts of sexual assault on a child from a position of trust after a 10-year-old girl told at least two adults that Valenzuela had inappropriate sexual contact with her on multiple occasions.
The girl's story, according to an affidavit for Valenzuela's arrest, was corroborated by another young child, who said they witnessed the lewd conduct on at least one occasion.
The first alleged assault happened in April, but further assaults were alleged to have happened since then, according to investigators with the Grand Junction Police Department.
One of the reporting adults told investigators that the type of assault alleged was similar to another incident that happened years ago, and that the new charges against Valenzuela "now made sense based off of what he knew now," according to the arrest record.
Investigators during the course of their interviews were also told about numerous alleged incidents of assault committed by Valenzuela, and prosecutors have added two counts of misdemeanor child abuse to the case.
Valenzuela appeared Friday in Mesa County Court, and a $50,000 cash-only bond was issued in his case.
