A 19-year-old motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene after a collision with a Jeep in a Clifton intersection near City Market on Friday afternoon, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
Traffic was diverted for about two hours around the westbound lane of the Interstate 70 Business Loop as police investigated the crash shortly after noon.
The driver of a Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling east on the business loop attempted to make a left-hand turn toward the supermarket when the vehicle collided with the driver of a Honda motorcycle heading west, according to Trooper Lucas Johnson.
Neither of the two people in the Jeep was injured in the crash, Johnson said.
Alcohol is not suspected as a factor in the crash, but troopers are investigating whether speed was a factor.
Johnson said the deceased man was "really close to a lot of students" at nearby Central High School, but his name was not released Friday pending notification of family.
