CMU's Hassan competes for Egypt
Ammar Hassan, who will be a junior at Colorado Mesa next season, placed 39th in the preliminary round on the 1-meter springboard Friday at the FINA World Championships in Gwangju, Republic of Korea.
The top 12 qualify for the finals. Hassan, who won the 1-meter and 3-meter NCAA Division II championships the past two seasons for CMU, scored 253.65 points on his six-dive set, competing for his native Egypt.
Hassan is also competing in the 3-meter synchronized diving with Youseff Salim, who dives for Arizona State. The synchronized preliminaries were late Friday night, with the finals starting at 5:45 this morning (MDT).

Gene Taylor's wins twice
Gene Taylor's Baseball Club won two league games over Impact Raptors in Thornton on Friday.
The first game, a 9-8 win, was tied going into the eighth inning, when Ty Wytulka hit a two-run double to make it 9-7. Wytulka had three hits, four RBI and scored twice.
Stevie Reynolds, Dylan Weaver, Nolan Bynum and Cody Bellmire each had two hits, with Reynolds scoring three times and Bellmire scoring twice.
Gene Taylor's (15-9) won the second game 9-1, scoring six runs in the second inning with RBI hits by Grey Neal, Bellmire, Christian Hafey, Weaver and Triston Norstrand.
Wytulka threw the first seven innings, allowing one run on four hits. He also struck out 12 Raptors.
