Gene Taylor's advances at Legion A state tournament

Jack Mohler went 3 for 3 with four RBI to lead Gene Taylor's past Monarch 15-4 on Saturday in the Legion A state tournament in Fort Collins.

Cody Bellemire got the offense started for Taylor's, hitting a solo home run leading off the second inning.

Gene Taylor's added three runs in the third, two in the fourth, three in the sixth and blew the game open with a six-run seventh.

Christian Hafey had three RBI and Bellemire, Triston Nostrand and Grey Neal all had two RBI for Gene Taylor's (29-10), which won its 10th straight game.

Ty Wytulka allowed four runs on four hits with 10 strikeouts and six walks in 6 2/3 innings.

Ryder Mancuso and Kory Christensen each hit two-run doubles Saturday night, but Gene Taylor's 16-under team lost 9-7 to Jefferson Academy in the winner's bracket of the Legion B tournament.

Taylor's faces Rocky Mountain at 11 this morning to stay alive in the double-elimination tournament. If Taylor's wins, it would play Jefferson for the state title this afternoon, needing to win twice. The if-necessary game is Monday.
