Western Slope Open deadline is July 10
Entries are still being accepted for the Western Slope Open, which runs from July 19-24 at the Elliott Tennis Center.
Deadline for entry into the 61st annual tournament is July 10. Entry forms can be downloaded at tennisgj.wordpress.com.
Junior competitors can play in three events plus one family or adult event and adults can play in three events plus one family event. Fee: $27/first event, $21/second event, $16/third and fourth event.
Draws for the tournament will be posted at Colorado Mesa from July 15-18 from 8 a.m. until noon.

Local mibsters fare well at nationals
Two players from the Mesa County Marbles team showed off their skills at the National Marbles Tournament in Wildwood, New Jersey last week.
Competing in his first national tournament, 9-year-old Charlie Bronson from Grand Junction won the Yankowski Sportsmanship Award winner. Bronson, the 13th sportsmanship award winner from Colorado, wowed the tournament committee to easily win the award.
Spencer Hays, a 13-year-old from Gunnison, became the eighth mibster from Colorado to be crowned the King of Marbles. For his win, Hays received a $2,000 scholarship. For winning the Best Sport Award, Bronson received a $500 scholarship.
