De Beque's Novess, Hotchkiss' Firor repeat as all-state athletes of the year

De Beque pulled off a sweep of the top honors of the girls' all-state team released by the Colorado High School Activities Association on Thursday.

Faith Novess was selected the Class 1A athlete of the year for the second straight season and Dragons coach Mike Kirschner was picked as the coach of the year.

De Beque athletes joining Novess on the all-state team are Nataly Castro, Cecilia Landeros, Jentry Largent, Railey Largent and Madison Scott.

Class 2A also saw a repeat athlete of the year winner in Hotchkiss' Kaiya Firor.

Other Hotchkiss athletes who made all-state are Adair Ela, Shay Glaser and Elsie Vazquez.

Meeker is represented by Gracie Bradfield, Sarah Kracht, Savannah Mendenhall and Megan Shelton.

Rangely's Hannah Wilkie also made the 2A team.

Boys: David Cardenas of Central was selected to the 5A all-state team.

Telluride senior Jaden Evans, who competed against Western Slope athletes throughout the season, made the all-state team in 2A.
